The True Meaning Of Da'wah (Simplified)

Posted by Emel: | 02 January 2012 | Category: |

~Assalamualaikum W.B.T~

A da'ei, or a person who calls other people towards the path of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, is a person who is following the path of dakwah!

As said in the Quranic verse, Al-Imran: 104

"Let there arise out of you of people, a band inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity"

Since, the words said above meant only a band of certain people inviting others to do amar ma'ruf and nahi mungkar, da'wah falls into the category of Fardhu Kifayah. Basically, fardhu kifayah means that some of us have to do it or we will all be sinful towards the things that were not done and supposed to be done by us.

BUT! I'm sure, the reader is questioning the word 'DAKWAH'. Am I right?

A source said as follows:

Da‘wah or Dawah (Arabic: دعوة) usually denotes the preaching of Islam. Da‘wah literally means "issuing a summons" or "making an invitation", being the active participle of a verb meaning variously "to summon" or "to invite" (whose triconsonantal root is د ع ى). A Muslim who practices da‘wah, either as a religious worker or in a volunteer community effort, is called a dā‘ī, plural du‘āt. A dā‘ī is thus a person who invites people to understand Islam through a dialogical process, and may be categorized in some cases as the Islamic equivalent of a missionary, as one who invites people to the faith, to the prayer, or to Islamic life.[1] Dawah must never be undertaken except by an expert specifically trained by highly respected and skilled scholars for that particular purpose.

The last part, about dakwah being exceptional to normal people, that is undeniably true. But that is only when we need to learn Islam in depth, the roots, the true knowledge such as; tauhid, akhlak, sirah, sunnah, and many more! Nevertheless, since most of us are Muslims by birth, and we did learn the basics of being a Muslim, we can never stray away from the road of a da'ie.

Aware or not, we're inviting people towards good every single day. How? By means of telling them to pray earlier, behave more, asking our friends if they would join our Quran recitations and a whole lot more! Those are the examples that a da'ei will make! Except that this things are basic and doesn't really require much knowledge, just the need and the will to call for good.

Yet, not many have this confidence. Eventually, we will be questioned by people of what we are doing, such as,

"You keep on telling me to pray earlier, but, I saw you didn't pray early too sometimes, how come?"

"Don't be such a goody-goody! I know what is right and what is wrong"

No matter what people say, a good da'ie will prevail and be patient . Just as Allah S.W.T had
mentioned in Surah Al-Asr'.

Remember! Even a little word of advice from you that invites other people to make Allah please, that is one step to become a da'ie. Wallahualam Bissawab.
